Marshall Breines

Marshall Breines is President of Hillspoint Management Corp (HPM) which is the founding corporate member of Affirmative Hillspoint LLC. He has been President of HPM since it was established in 1994.

Mr. Breines has 35+ years experience in the fields of health care finance, management consulting and facility development. His career started in public accounting in New York as one of the original members of the health care audit and consulting practice of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG). He then became Comptroller for one of the firm's audit clients, Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn & Queens, where he managed the finances of their St. John’s and Mary Immaculate Hospital divisions.

Mr. Breines next accepted a position as Chief Financial Officer of Morningside House Nursing Home Company during its planning and development process for a new 386-bed facility to be the successor to two smaller, non-profit facilities. During this period of expansion in the non-profit sector of the industry in the late 1970’s, New York State provided financial stimulus with low equity, low cost moral obligation bond financing to promote the construction of new, larger and better equipped facilities. As part of Morningside's leadership during this period of dynamic growth in the industry, Mr. Breines was a pioneer in establishing in-house physician group practices and a non-profit owned management consulting business which provided program, code compliance, financial and planning services to the long term care industry.

Mr. Breines acquired the Morningside House consulting company and continued its services to dozens of long term care institutions until the firm merged with Munns & Dobbin's, a large New York regional CPA and consulting firm specializing in the non-profit and healthcare industry. At Munns & Dobbins, Mr. Breines was Principal in Charge of its management consulting practice with an emphasis on physician group practice management and billing, planning and certificate of need services and financial management. During this period, Mr. Breines also structured a business model to provide clients with CCRC development services.

Mr. Breines then established Hillspoint Management Corp in 1994 to focus exclusively on healthcare and senior living facility development and capital formation for non-profit and faith-based institutions. From 1994 through 2006 HPM was instrumental in planning, developing and structuring financing for retirement communities, nursing homes and subsidized senior housing projects in excess of $500,000,000. In 2004 Mr. Breines began working with Mr. Eagan, then an active partner with Sims Capital Management, to restructure a large CCRC project from its for-profit to non-profit ownership, and to provide pre-construction seed capital to the non-profit sponsor. In 2006, Mr. Breines and Mr. Eagan combined their expertise to form Affirmative Hillspoint LLC.
